Massage Therapy
Massage therapy offers a drug-free, non-invasive and humanistic approach based on the body's natural ability to heal itself. Massage has many physiological effects, such as:
- Increasing circulation, allowing the body to pump more oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs.
- Stimulating the lymph system, the body's natural defense against toxic invaders. For example, in breast cancer patients, massage has been shown to increase the cells that fight cancer.
- Reducing spasms and cramping.
- Increasing joint flexibility.
- Reducing recovery time for strenuous workouts and eliminating subsequent pains of the athlete at any level.
- Releasing endorphins, the body's natural painkillers. For this reason, massage is being incorporated into treatment for chronic illness, injury and recovery from surgery to control and relieve pain.
- Improving range of motion and decreasing discomfort for patients with low back pain.
- Relieving pain for migraine sufferers and decreasing the need for medications.
Massage for active adults...
Massage therapy isn't just for "young" people. In fact, active adults (over the age of 65) can enjoy these benefits of massage:
- Improves relaxation and communication in Alzheimer's patients (study by the Touch Research Institute)
- Facilitates increased range of motion and pain management for arthritis sufferers.
- Stimulates natural joint lubrication through increased circulation, improving mobility.
- Increases coordination, strength, flexibility and posture. Reduce muscle tension, which can assist in a more restful sleep.
- Expedites healing of wounds.
- Boosts energy level and mental awareness.
Massage therapy is a great way to eliminate stress...
According to the American Medical Association's Web site, stress is the cause of up to 85 percent of all human illness and disease, and each week 95 million Americans suffer from stress-related symptoms. Research has shown that massage brings awareness to the areas of the client's body that are holding the stress. Massage not only can relive the tension in these areas, but has also been proven to do the following:
- Reduces the heart rate.
- Lowers blood pressure.
- Increases blood circulation and lymph flow.
- Relaxes muscles, improves range of motion.
- Increases the body's natural painkillers — endorphins.
As you can see, massage therapy has incredible benefits. So, are you ready to enjoy these benefits yourself? Then simply click here to book your appointment online or give us a call at 303.922.7946.

Dr. Rice utilizes the following in the Chiropractic service he offers his patients:
Applied Kinesiology (AK) Applied Kinesiology is a technique that Dr. Rice utilizes in his practice because it gives more of a clear picture as to what is happening in a person's body. One of the premises of AK is the relationship that muscles have to the body's organs. For example, Rhomboids are associated with the liver. So, if a muscle is weak, is it the muscle or the organ? Total Body Modification (TBM) TBM is an adjunct to chiropractic in that it also assists with the body's computer and allows us to take a look at different programs and see if they're working correctly. For example, let's take a look at the digestive system. Dr. Rice can take a look at different organs or the system itself and even allergies or disharmonies that can disrupt those systems that make you feel bad. Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) Our bodies have capability to remembering things. This is usually done at tissue levels. This particular technique uses various steps in order to release those unwanted memories from the tissues. These unwanted memories can be stuck in organs, scar tissue or allergies that can cause havoc in your life. Basic Nutrition Counseling Dr. Rice's nutritional counseling program shows what system(s) in your body is not happy with what you have eaten and how your typical diet is going to lead you to disease and not health.

Acupuncture
Did you know that the World Health Organization recognizes only two traditional forms of medicine, that of Chinese Medicine (including acupuncture) and Ayurvedic medicine? Both medicines have existed for thousands of years.
Although the basic text still used today in Acupuncture schools is two thousand years old, the medicine itself is estimated to be much older, up to eight thousand years old! One of the reasons for the longevity of Chinese medicine, which encompasses acupuncture and herbal treatment, is the fact that: Chinese medicine treats the root cause of disease, and doesn't just suppress or mask symptoms as Western or allopathic medicine often does.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can treat ANY disease, disorder or complaint, although it is most well-known for treating aches and pains.
Acupuncture is very safe and, contrary to urban legend, virtually painless. However, if someone is adverse to needles, there are many non-needle techniques that are extremely effective.
At Back to Basics Health Center, we offer acupuncture services, as well as Chinese herbal therapy, nutritional advice, nutritional supplements, and Chinese massage and exercises. For more information, including the many diseases and disorders that Chinese medicine treats, please see the Our Services section.
